One of the most important aspects of trying to get the roof right though is the pitch. Generally these roofs have a pitch from 1 2 12 to 2 12 from 4 2 to 16 7. Pitch is the term used to describe the angle slope or slant of your roof. Roof pitch designations are comprised of two numbers indicating a ratio.

They hava a pitch that can be as high as 21 12 175. They are the easiest ones to construct and they are safe to walk on. These are generally difficult in maintenance as they require special materials to avoid leaks. Conventional roofs have the pitch ranging from 4 12 to 9 12 33 3 to 75.

A 12 to 24 pitch is expressed as 1 2. The ratio can be indicated by a division slash separating the numbers such as 2 12 or 7 12. Understanding a roof s pitching can be quite tough if you are just getting started and working with a roofer can leave you a little bit unsure about what is being suggested with regard to the job there s so much to learn that it can become a bit baffling. Roof pitch refers to the amount of rise a roof has compared to the horizontal measurement of the roof called the run.

Most roof s have a pitch in the 4 12 to 9 12 range. The pitch of a roof is its vertical rise divided by its horizontal span and is a measure of its steepness. Low pitched roofs have the pitch below 4 12 33 3. The pitch can be expressed numerically as a fraction.

A pitch over 9 12 is considered a steep slope roof between 2 12 and 4 12 is considered a low slope roof and less than 2 12 is considered a flat roof. But the taller profiles like standing seam and pbr shown below can be installed on roofs with as low as 1 4 or 1 2 in 12 pitch. Their fasteners are either concealed or screwed at the top of a ridge which makes them less likely to leak. A pitched roof is a roof that slopes downwards typically in two parts at an angle from a central ridge but sometimes in one part from one edge to another.
